From: President Debbie 2020 was to be a year celebrating the vision that women in Bentwater envisioned when organizing the Bentwater Ladies Organization. Nothing could have prepared us for the events that have ensued. In March, the threat of the Covid virus forced us to cancel our April and May luncheons and other activities. By June, the board and activity chairs felt that we could continue to plan our fall luncheons and programs using the guidelines mandated by the state and county. The September luncheon has been enthusiastically filled to a maximum of 70, and we have made a few changes to keep our members’ safety as a top priority. For the remainder of this year, the board has made some very tough decisions regarding our events. Member safety is number one. GOLF AND GAMBLING AND GAMES — Even before Hurricane Laura, the decision had been made that social distancing was not possible for this trip and therefore it has been canceled. Huge shout out to Denise Carey and Donna Roth for planning such an awesome trip. You are appreciated!!! NUTCRACKER MARKET TRIP — Due to a number of factors this trip has also been canceled. Special thanks to Pam Gallagher, who will be planning this and other trips in 2021. HOLIDAY HOME TOUR — We had to make a decision on the Home tour now, and therefore we are canceling this year’s tour. There is a great deal of planning and expense required for this big event. The board does not believe it is fair for our generous homeowners to prepare their homes when we might have to minimize attendance for safety reasons. It is the sincere wish of the board that the homeowners who planned on being on the tour in 2020 will agree to a bigger and better home tour in 2021. ANNUAL DINNER DANCE— Lana Sultz and her committee have an amazing menu and plans for this year’s event. Due to social distancing restrictions, we simply could not afford to provide the same experience with a live band and delicious menu at the same ticket price as previous years. It is with great sadness that the board made the tough decision to cancel. There are expenses that could not be recovered if we would have moved forward. Canceling was the prudent financial decision. We hope to be able to offer some type of social gathering during the holidays. However, safety restrictions will determine what, if any, type of event we can hold.
2020 has certainly proved to be a year of challenges. It has also given us opportunities to form new groups.
DINNER EIGHT — Cindy Sugden is organizing our new Dinner Eight groups. This is a casual dining group of only four couples. Hopefully, smaller groups will make some feel safer and offer a perfect chance to meet new neighbors and get to know friends better. New groups will be formed as participants sign up. Contact Cindy at Cynthia.firstname.lastname@example.org cell 832-526-6437. BLO BUNCO — Judy Love will be chairing this new group offering groups of eight to gather for fun and fellowship. Contact Judy at email@example.com cell 281-723-5275, if you are interested.
I would like to personally offer condolences to member Michelle Hoover at the recent passing of her mother, Carol Jean Kingery.
It is with great appreciation and deep gratitude that I thank all of the Activity Chairs who have worked so hard to provide awesome experiences for our members. While this virus has definitely changed us and the way we do things, it has not stopped us from being a group of ladies who value our friendships. We have not just survived 2020, we are thriving. We are planning on a better 2020!!!!
I hope to see you at the remaining luncheons. Debbie Herring
