Art-to-Lunch: Visit museums or art related entities in the Houston area followed by lunch. Usually meets on 3rd Thursday. Contact is Shannon Finger, slfinger2663@gmail.com Casual Dining IN: Groups of 4-5 couples dine casually in members’ homes. The organizer puts groups together. This is a great way to meet new people and for spouses to meet other spouses. Groups are encouraged to meet in February, April, June, September and October but each group will decide for themselves what schedule fits their needs. Contact is Bonnie Brasic, bbrasic@hotmail.com Casual Dining OUT: Groups of 4-5 couples dine in local restaurants. The organizer puts groups together. Someone from each group can take the lead in choosing the restaurant. This is a great way to sample the new restaurants in our area as well as make new friends and encourage spouse participation. Groups are encouraged to meet in February, April, June, September, and October but each group can decide what fits their needs. The group meets to discuss various charitable organizations or events that need help with manpower or perhaps a drive to collect items needed. In the past, Meals on Wheels and the Pregnancy Help Center have asked for additional items. This group meets as needed. Contact is Diane Laughter, dllaugh@aol.com Garden Club: This group’s mission is to have members acquire additional knowledge of plants and gardening methods unique to our area. Field trips can also be a fun part of this group. Contact is Jill Wyatt, jillwyatt@yahoo.com Gourmet Dining: Members and spouses/partners prepare gourmet style meals. Recipes are pre-determined by the menu committees. Groups consist of 4 couples and meet three times a year for a large holiday cocktail party in November. The meal segments are divided among the 4 couples, so each couple prepares a part of the meal. There is a host couple assigned to each group. The group meets at the host couples’ home on a mutually agreed upon date. Meal assignments are made by each group among themselves. This way the preparation is equally shared among the couples. The expenses are also equally shared at the end of the night. This is a great way to “try new things” and meet new people as well. Hell: Hell is a card game based on the game Solitaire, except it’s not you against the deck and it’s not slow and boring. It’s fast paced and can get a little raucous! There’s always a beginner table for those who want to learn but most people catch on quickly. This game has really caught on! Contact is Nonie Cody; noniecody@yahoo.com Ladies on the Go: This group promotes camaraderie among the single and widowed ladies, as well as the ladies whose husbands prefer not to participate in various activities. This is a great way to foster new friendships among the many wonderful women of Bentwater. This group is for you whether you have never seen a gun or already own your own. This group meets on the second Thursday of the month at the BTO shooting range HWY 105. Fees are paid to the range. Each month a willing member chooses a local restaurant, and the group meets for lunch. It’s a great way to explore the area’s restaurants as well as meet and get to know new people. Mahjong is a tile-based game developed in China during the Qing Dynasty. It is a fairly skilled game but once you learn you will really enjoy it. This group meets twice a month at a mutually agreed upon time and welcomes ladies of all skill levels. This group checks the participants in and helps new people find a seat. Two Brunches are hosted each year to help new members meet each other as well as the board. This group is led by a committee and needs volunteers to welcome and sit with new people at various activities, as well as provide refreshments at the brunches. This is a great way to get to know our new neighbors. Members take turns as Hostess on the 3rd Tuesday of each month 1-30-4pm, so bring your project and enjoy us for an afternoon of sharing techniques, ideas and new friendships. Good, detail-oriented people are encouraged to volunteer! This features a tour of several beautiful homes in our neighborhood that are decorated for the winter holiday. Home docents and ticket salespersons are needed. Everyone from the front and back gates to the office staff, to our surrounding EMS locations gets a little holiday treat from the grateful ladies of the BLO. Home baked cookies are collected on the date of the December luncheon. On this date, the cookies are packaged into gift bags and delivered that day. Sign up to bake and/or package cookies. |
